How to Lead a Culture of Creativity.

There is a hugely popular reel on social media where Dr Jordan Peterson describes how valuable creative people are. Like this one on Instagram.

It the reel, Peterson calls out that:

“…creativity is difficult to nurse in any system because systems do not nurture creativity”.

What Peterson means by that is that creativeness tends to be dismissed or dismantled by the way that business works.

Which is true.

You see, creativity is a big asset, but it is also a big risk for business. Simply because they are polar opposites. Business likes rigour and timeliness and making money. And creativity… well creativity likes getting lost in a dream world and can be frankly nonchalant about money.

Which is why creativity gets dismissed - it’s a form of control, to keep the business under control.

But leading and nurturing creativity are actually teachable, measurable and assessable skills. And these skills are absolutely essential for innovating new products and services, new ways of working, and keeping your brand and business alive in market and relevant to consumers.

Despite the good that comes from creativity, leading creativity - whether that’s at an individual level or whole of organisation level - is an issue.

The greatest barriers to leading creativity and nurturing it are:

❌ Lack of tools on how-to do it well.

❌ Lack of self-awareness that you need them.

I’ve written two books to help leaders lead creativity. They are:

Pretty Comes Last - a book that shows you how to lead creative thinking and projects.

The Experience-Suite - a book that shows you how to lead a culture of creative thinking and innovation.

Why did I write them? Because as a creative person, as a leader of creative thinking, I’ve come across more than a fair share of leaders who cannot lead creativity.

These books are essential resources for small business owners, CEOs and creative thinkers who want to still be in business years from now - simply because they know how to lead creativity with ease and confidence
